Welcome to YOCee - a kids' community website, created by children, for children of Chennai!

What is this website all about?
A cyberspace where you can access information on classes you could sign up for, tips on how to spice up that project you couldn’t finish, the fun destination for holidays, books recently released for kids, sports and anything that interests you.
A place to participate in contests and win prizes!
You can get to know more about the children in the city, who have achieved a lot and understand how you can be a winner too!
In short, YOCee - Youth Of Chennai, energetic and enthusiastic - is the hub for the young people of Chennai

Now, how did this all start?
Revathi, the anchorperson of this website and who has a background in finance, had worked with kids on many projects. She noticed that many kids in her neighbourhood who come back from school, do their homework, watch TV and retire to bed. And that's the routine.
At the same time, she came across a lot of activities for kids  - theatre workshop, turtle walk and sing-alongs.
Why should the kids be trapped in the monotony of the television and homework when they can have some fun learning new things and interacting with new people?
That made Revathi decide to tell the kids about what they were missing. She started blogging under www.kiddiesdayout.blogspot.com.

The feedback wanting to know more about activities, classes and contests in their area gave food for more thought and paved the way to enhance it to a website wherein kids, parents and teachers could exchange all that they know about the city, the happenings and all they want to express about the issues relating to the school kids.
Gayathri S, a student of Journalism put in a few more ideas to it and the plan for a website that is by and for kids has rolled out.

Why isn’t YOCee just like any other children’s website?
Instead of making it a website designed by adults and feed the kids, Revathi wanted children to come together and be involved right from the making. The response to the notes released in newspapers calling for kids to work on the project gave her all the encouragement to go ahead.
When the team met up to discuss about the website, what it should contain, the design, the backgrounds and contribution to the website, ideas started pouring in. Each child gave his or her opinion and ideas. Most of the pages were voluntarily taken away by the kids for designing and providing contents.
You can find the names of the young people who contributed to each page of this website. That’s what makes YOCee different from the rest.

How can you be part of it?
It is purely a kids’ website, so that children get to meet a whole bunch of new people every day, interact and exchange all that you want to – be it education or spending the holidays or hobbies. Everybody who has an idea or info to share through interesting writing will find a place on this website.
You can send us news about events in and around your area, be it photos of celebration in your colony, school programs, your or your schoolmate's achievements or your drawings! Closet poets and budding artists, open up here!

As of now, YOCee functions from a virtual office. Readers can find us online and exchange information through email - editor@yocee.in
