Healthy competition and a show of true sportsmanship- an event that occurs but once a year- indeed, it is the Annual AMMF Sports Meet 2008-09. It was held over a span of three days from August 5, 2008 to August 7, 2008 in TI Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Ambattur and for two days in YMCA grounds, Nandanam. This year, AMM hosted the esteemed tournament. . The sister schools of the AMM foundation namely, SRM, VCHS, TI and the school of yours truly, AMM, lock heads in this fierce competition each year.
Students showcasing their talents in the arenas of both indoor and outdoor games participated in this tourney. Games such as basketball, football, kho-kho, badminton, table tennis, chess, carom and many others were conducted by AMM School. There was a great response from the students of all the schools who played their respective matches in the spirit of true sportsmanship while at the same time battling it out for bragging rights.
The track and field events were held on 12th and 13th august in YMCA grounds, Nandanam. It was a truly amazing spectacle- watching students participating in events such as 100 M dash, long jump, javelin throw and many others. In the track and field events, it was TI that reigned supreme.
Overall it was TI School that came out ahead. AMM secured 19 gold medals, 19 silver medals and 7 bronze medals in the tourney. I can proudly say that I, in some small measure, contributed to this by my involvement in the AMM Basketball Club as its captain. It never would have been possible however, without the efforts put in by the members of the team.
The day ended with exhaustion but exhilaration for the students of AMM School. Their victories have indeed inspired them to reach to greater heights.
