The Founder’s Day of the Children’s Club Society, Mylapore, was celebrated in a grand manner on February 22, 2015 at the Tattvaloka Hall in Alwarpet.
Founded in 1947 to encourage children in the age group 5 to 14 years in various extra curricular activities, the Club conducts annual inter-school & open competitions for school children in January. These competitions include Carnatic & Hindustani vocal, Violin, Bhajan, Folk Music, Drama, Recitation and Storytelling in multiple languages.
The club also conducted its 4th Open Art competition. This year in January, over 500 children from 40 schools across Chennai, participated in the various competitions.
The winners of various competitions were awarded on the Founder’s Day. A musical feast by the winners of various competitions held in January this year, was a treat to those present on the occasion.
The T.R.V. Sastri Rolling Cup for the winner of the Inter-School competition was bagged by Sri Sankara Senior Secondary School, Adyar and the runner-up Dr. Balasundaram Shield went to P.S. Senior Secondary School, Mylapore.
Anil Srinivasan, well-known musician and founder of Rhapsody Music Foundation was the Chief Guest on the occasion and gave away the prizes. Sanskrit scholar A. Durgadevi was the Guest-of-Honour. Sarala Panchapakesan, President of the Children’s Club Society presided over the function.
