Annual Day at The PSBB Millennium School

The PSBB Millennium School celebrated its 3rd Annual Day on the July 16, 2008 in the Kamarajar Memorial Hall, Teynampet. The theme for the annual day was ‘The Pied Piper through the ages’. It took the audience through a journey into the leadership from the past to the present.

The show began with an invocation to Lord Ganesha. The senior students of the school danced gracefully for the song ‘Sharanam Sidhi Vinayaka’. They presented the prayer dance in three classical dance forms – Bharathanatyam, Odissi and Mohiniaatam.

Next, the school choir enchanted everyone with their melodious songs. The songs were about great leaders. The nursery students dressed up like the leaders on who the songs were being sung.

Then came the play ‘The Pied Piper of Hamelin’. A staggering number of 230 students participated in the play. The play moved the audience and had almost brought tears in their eyes.

‘Govardhana Krishna’ a dance performance was the next event. It stated the relationship between a leader and a devotee. Children of classes 1 to 6 participated in it. The thunder scene in the dance was the part which made the audience jump to their feet! The lightings made the whole performance realistic.

The dance was followed by the play about Nelson Mandela. One of Nelson Mandela’s moving speech was also presented in the show. The students made everyone tap their feet and clap their hands with the rhythm of the music.

The next play was about India’s own Pied Piper, Gandhiji. It showed how Gandhiji struggled for the freedom of our nation. The play also made the younger generation aware of the Dandi march which was one of the important reasons for our freedom.

The play about the man who had a great vision came next. He was the man who composed the song ‘Sindhu Nadhiyinmisai’. Guess who is the leader? He was the great poet Subramania Bharathi. The plays presented by the students on stage was like watching movie for the audience.

Last but not the least was the item which was about the perfect teacher. It stated the qualities of an ideal teacher. This item formed the grand finale of the school annual day. The perfect teacher, the PSBB Schools admire, Mrs. Y.G Parthasarathy was also present on the stage in the finale.

It was a great effort by the Principal Sita Umamaheshwari, the advisor Rukmani Motilal and all other teachers to involve about half of the school students in the annual day. After all the cultural activities were finished, the chief guests Mrs. Y.G. Parthasarathy and Lyricist Pa. Vijay followed by the Educomp director Aslesha Takur addressed the students. Finally the prizes were distributed for the all-rounders and subject toppers for the year 2007-08.

The annual day ended. But it is the beginning of many such celebrations of the school to come throughout the year.
