Language of the brush

It was not the first time that Suvedha Ganesan exhibited her paintings in the city. But this bright eyed girl looked at every visitor at the gallery for a feedback. She could get it from their facial expression! That is how she could learn the art from her art teacher too.

Suvedha, now in class 12 at the Little Flower Convent, Nungambakkam is a special child. Speech and hearing impaired. But she turned the visitors speechless through her art during the exhibition she held at the Vinnyasa Premier Art Gallery from June 11 to 20, 2008.

Suvedha’s first solo exhibition of paintings happened when she was in class 10. She has recieved many prizes in various competitions. Her paintings decorate the walls of a few corporates in the city.

Encouraged by Freedom Trust, a NGO run by Carnatic singer Dr. S. Sundar, Suvedha went to learn arts from artist Rama Suresh, a post graduate from the College of Fine Arts, Chennai. Now Suvedha is also interested in photography.

Suvedha’s father, a teacher at the Hindu Higher Secondary School, Triplicane said that the exhibition was largely attended by arts enthusiasts across the city. He had taken a short leave from the school to help Suvedha in the exhibition. He fetched her from the school every evening and the trio – the dad, Suvedha and Rama Suresh, the art teacher – were available at the gallery to brief the visitors about the paintings.

What does Suvedha plans after this exhibition? It is study time for her 12th class Board exams. And the future plan is to join College of Arts to study and master the art professionally.
