New Helpline number for city schools introduced

To ensure the safety of school-going children, Chennai Police has introduced an exclusive helpline.

The number is 95000 99100.

When in an emergency, you can text a message to this number and help will reach you within a short time, promises the police.

Stepping up measures to ensure the safety of schoolchildren, the Chennai police have introduced an exclusive helpline for schools. In times of emergency, send a text message to 9500099100, and help will reach in no time, police commissioner T Rajendran told principals at a closed-door meeting on Tuesday.

Soon local police representatives will be included in the Parent-Teacher Associations to consult for matters regarding the security of the school children.

The City Police has also suggested that all schools set up CCTV cameras at their gates. The camera should be capable of capturing the footage of people and vehicles that enter the school or are parked nearby.
