Rosary Matric releases its diamond jubilee souvenir

Rosary Matric school in Santhome is celebrating its diamond jubilee through the academic year 2010 – 11. The school hosted many events during the year.

On March 21, the diamond jubilee souvenir was released by the union minister P. Chidambaram at a grand event held at the school. N. Ram, the Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu received the first copy of the souvenir.

What has P. Chidambaram to do with the all-girls school?
He was an old student at this school before it became a girls’ school. He said he was admitted to the school in ‘baby class’ and spent the first five years of schooling at this school. He added that those were the best ever school days in his life.

He also recalled his being a mischievous boy and was often made to kneel down in front of the statue of Jesus was was made to repeat ‘Hail Mary!’

While appreciating the services of the missionary and non-missionary teachers of the school for their selfless service in the field of education, the minister said that it was for noble cause of serving humanity. He urged that the alumni give back to the school to help expand facilities.

N. Ram, also an alumnus of the school was honoured with the ‘Pride of Chennai’ award on the occasion.

Recognising the contribution of Teachers and staff who served for more than 25 years, the school honoured them at the function. A cultural event by the senior students of the school followed.
