Vandalur zoo gets a butterfly park

Adding colour to the already popular Arignar Anna Zoological Park in Vandalur, Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha inaugurated a Butterfly Park inside the zoo campus on Sep. 15, 2015. The inauguration via video conferencing was for a 6.7 acres of the colourful park built at a cost of Rs. 4 Crores.

The Caterpillar design of the park, which is a tube-like structure of 60-ft.-long and made of acrylic sheets, is said to be heat resistant. The location of the butterfly park inside the zoo campus is near Otteri, a water body that will help maintain the temperature suitable for the butterflies.

The larval and adult host plants already are planted at this site, which is a landscaped habitat. The park will also have full-fledged nectar gardens, a walkway, breeding and rearing centres and rock gardens in due course.

Now, here is another spot in Chennai, to take your guests during the holidays!
