A Cricket book in Sanskrit

Chinmaya Mission, Chennai has initiated a unique project titled ‘Speak Sanskrit through Sports’ to promote Sanskrit, an ancient, simple and beautiful language of India. The programme is one of the activities in the celebration of the birth centenary of Gurudev Swami Chinmayananda.

Conceptualised by Swami Mitrananda, this programme will have elocution competition which involves giving running commentary on cricket in Sanskrit. Open to all school children, the first round of the competition is slated to be held in the city on October 2, 2014. The finals will take place on November 1. The first prize winner will get to fly to Melbourne to watch the 2015 World Cup final.

As part of this programme, Dr. Ranganathan and S. Kannan have come out with a book ‘Speak Sanskrit through Sports’ on cricket. This is a Sanskrit vocabulary book with special emphasis on commonly used terms in Cricket, with sample paragraphs on how to deliver Sanskrit commentaries for games.

The authors Dr. Ranganathan and S. Kannan are Sanskrit teachers working at Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Chennai. The book, published on June 16, 214 can be purchased from Chinmaya Mission in Harrington Road, Chetpet.
