What do you expect to happen at your school on the last working day before the exams begin?
Teachers to carry out intense revision classes?
The students of PSBB, Nungambakkam also expected the same with all the last-minute tips and clarification of numerous doubts.
But it turned out to be something totally different. On Sep. 19, the last working day before the quarterly exams began, the students had their health education exam / classes during the first two periods.
Then they gathered in the auditorium to first witness a presentation by the students of class 9-A on the hazards of plastic.
This was followed by a long but enthralling Math Quiz, conducted by the students themselves for all classes from 9 to 12. Mr. Ramachandran, the school’s former Head of Math Department presided over this event and appreciated the efforts of the quiz masters because of whom the programme was interesting and useful.
He also showed the students a math trick, which can help everyone find answers of any number (having any number of digits) when multiplied with 9 with our own fingers! The students were truly amazed by this fact, which could help them in their examinations.
After the lunch break, the Math Magazine titled – QED was released.
The first copy was presented to Mr. Ramachandran by the school’s Dean and Director Mrs. Y. G. Parthasarathy.
The editors – class 12 students – of the magazine then explained why they had chosen the name QED. The term QED is used at the end of all geometrical proofs meaning – ‘Thus Proved’.
This initiative was taken up to ward of fear of mathematics from the minds of students. Next on the list was the famous ‘Shipwreck’ game, the most liked by all.
In this game, students come up on stage and act out characters of celebrities all over the world, who have to convince the Captain of the ship and also the judge to give them the life jacket (remember, there’s only one available).
The students have to be creative and humorous, not to forget authenticity also plays an important role. At the end of this game, the audience was roaring with laughter while the most deserved students won prizes for their hilarious performances. With this, the day was nearly over with only the last two periods left.
On the whole, the day was stress-relieving for the students, before the quarterly examinations start on Monday.
