In a recent order, Tamil Nadu government has announced that all beaches in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Tiruvallur districts would be closed to the public on all weekends – Saturday and Sunday – and on public holidays from April 11, 2021.

Earlier last year, the beaches were closed to public since March 22, 2020 and the restrictions went on for nearly 8 months. People rejoiced when the beaches were reopened on Dec. 14, 2020.

Now, in view of the fresh rise in cases of COVID-19 in the city and the state, Tamil Nadu government has announced the closure of the beaches during weekends and holidays.

People are strictly advised to follow COVID related protocols on other days while visiting the beach as well as while moving around in the public.
