Chinmaya Vidyalaya wins Karuna Club award

Karuna Club affiliated to Karuna International, is a non-funding group run by a group of Jains. Karuna which means ‘compassion.’ Karuna International offers scholarships to poor deserving students who cannot afford to go to collage. They have urged 1,25,000 children to adopt vegetarianism and 5,00,000 students discard all leather articles. Karuna club started in 1995 in Chennai. They believe in saving animals, promoting vegetarianism , universal brotherhood, saving the environment and promoting values in life. About 2200 schools are affiliated to this program.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Virugambakkam is associated with this club for about 15 years. They perform many activities like Bal seva, gulshans, blood donation, rallies etc.This year Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Virugambakkam has won the outstanding school award among the Karuna Clubs in schools. With 12,500 points, they were awarded a trophy along with a cash prize of Rs.10,000. The prize distribution was held in Jodhpur, Rajastan.The Karuna Club coordinators Mrs. Vasundhara and Mrs. Bhavani received the prize from the chief guest. Last year too the school won a cash prize of Rs. 25,000.

Chinmaya Vidyalaya through the Karuna Club aims to promote peace and harmony.
