What’s in a Spelling?

On the 10th of September, 2009 six students locked horns in the finals of the Spelling Bee Competition at PSBB KKN.

This Spelling Bee competition was a new initiative by the management to improve the spellings of the students. The competition was exclusively for the Middle School students. The preliminary level was held in the classrooms in which every student participated. A set of ten words were played to the students through the computer in the class. The high scorers advanced to the next level which was also a written round. The top twelve progressed to the next round which was an oral round conducted by Mrs. Malathy Santhanam, Addl. Vice Principal.

The top six proceeded to the finals, held at the Silver Jubilee Hall, conducted by Mrs. Valsa Balaji, Addl. Vice Principal. Class VII students were the audience.

A set of fifteen words were read out twice each and the participants had 30 seconds of time to spell out each word. A scribe was also present to make the competition fair and square. Quadruplet, florescence, embarrassed, orthopedics were some of the words that the finalists read out.

Devi Iswariya of Class VIII emerged the winner while Niveditha of Class VII was the runner up.

Mrs. Chandra Srinivasan, Advisor was also present. Mrs, Valsa Balaji also advised the students to improve their spellings and also gave them tips on how they could improve their spellings.

Sensing the impact of the competition, Mrs. Chandra also announced that the Spelling Bee competition would be conducted every term.
