Children’s day at Bala Vidyalaya, a school for the hearing impaired

Bala Vidyalaya, Adyar held their Children’s Day celebration on Nov. 14.

The event began at 11 AM and was organised by the teachers of the school and Dr. Meera Suresh, the vice principal. The chief guest was actor Nasser.

Bala Vidyalaya, a school for young hearing impaired children, was started in the year 1969 and is now in its 41st year.

Children below the age of 2 1/2 years are given admission into the school, where they receive intensive training in language and speech skills, free of cost. They graduate from the school at the age of 5, and get integrated into the mainstream of education.

Games like ‘Catch the fish’, ‘Snow bowling’ and ‘Hammering the ball’ were organized for the students of the school. Their arts and craft work was showcased, along with a video presentation about the school and its teaching methods.

The teachers took an active part in taking care of the children, and many alumni were present at the venue.
