Sishya school’s annual fete, which is organised every year by the school’s Parent Teachers Association, was on July 5, 2008, the day after the last exam for the senior classes (6 and above) got over. It was an evening of fun for all the students of sishya as well as the visitors.
Preparations for the fete began at 7.30 a.m. The students of classes 8, 9 and 11 came to school in the morning to help set up the stalls. They brought chairs and tables down to the football cum cricket cum hockey field and helped parents in seting up stalls. At around 10.30a.m. everyone had finished and were ready to take a braek for a grand evening show.
At 2 p.m. most of the parents who were going to man the various stalls had arrived and had started or finished decorating their stalls. The fete was open 3 p.m. to visitors and continued till late in the evening, even beyond 8.30 p.m.
Treasure hunt, Tarot reading and Coconut Shire in the games section and Chaat, spicy corn, fruit juices, dosa, ice creams in the food section were the buzzing spots.
There was also an animal stall with real animals.
All through the evening a DJ was playing songs for those who wanted to dance on the makeshift stage. Later, the winners of the grand raffle draw, who were chosen then and there, got their prizes. The winners of the best decorated Games stall (Coconut shire, class5) and Best decorated food stall (Chaat and spicy corn, class 8) also got prizes.
The evening proved to be fun for those inside the school campus, but for those who lived around the school, the whole area was blocked with parked cars. They faced a huge traffic jam due to the flow and parking of vehicles. For a day in the year, the residents of Padmanabha Nagar were not even able to step out of their homes due to heavy traffic.
For those inside the campus, however the evening was definitely a lot of fun!
