Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya celebrated the 62nd Independence Day on Aug. 15 with many programs held in the school auditorium, early in the morning.
The chief guest for the occasion was Mrs. Saiprasanna Ramesh, a mathematics teacher, who hoisted the National Flag. After the flag hoisting, the program started with a prayer sung by a group of around 10 students of Class 8 and 10.
A student of class 12 spoke about the Independence Day. The next program was a dance, performed by the senior students, to a patriotic song.
Then there was a Hindi speech. The students, who had sung the prayer song, also sang two patriotic songs, one like a bhajan and the other a melodious song. They looked like a cluster of white pigeons with bandhini duppatas around their necks.
Students of Class 5 put up a small skit showing a scene from the life of Vanchinathan, a freedom fighter. A video related to patriotism was shown to the audience which generated a big applause.
The chief guest then spoke. The program ended with the national anthem. Chocolates were then distributed to all.
