Remembering Kamaraj at Rosary Matric

Rosary Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Santhome celebrated the birthday of Kamaraj, the former chief minister of Tamil Nadu and a pioneerin introducing free school education in the state, on July 15.

Two students of Std XI hosted the show in a very different and interesting manner. They started the show with a difference, giving it a small screen touch. The students acted as TV hosts and started the show. They gave an introduction about Kamaraj. He was called as ‘Karuppu Gandhi’ by the people.
Then, one of the students offered a small prayer.

The chief guest for the show was the Head of Department of Tamil, Ms.Ulaganayagi of Stella Mary’s college. She has written about 150 Short poems in Tamil. She has also written and published 4 books. She has visited 16 countries and is proud to represent herself as a Tamilian in all the countries, she said at the event.

The school choir sung a song which reflected the lifestyle of Kamaraj. The music for the song was played by another student.
After the inspiring song, a student talked about the simplicity and services of Kamaraj.
The students also staged a drama which spoke about the simplicity of Kamaraj. The free education and uniforms for children and the free mid-day meals introduced by him when he was the chief minister of the state. Kamaraj constructed many dams to provide water for the farmers. These were also illustrated in the drama.

Followed by the drama, a meaningful dance was performed by the students. The dance revealed that Kamaraj wanted to abolish the discrimination among castes and creed and live with unity. He wanted everyone to be equally treated.

Finally, the chief guest Ms.Ullaganayagi gave a short speech. She shared many incidents from the life of Kamaraj with the students. Kamaraj discontinued his studies when he was in Std 6 but he wanted the whole nation to be educated. Kamaraj preached the policy, EACH ONE, TEACH ONE.
Ms.Ullaganayagi appreciated the students who participated in the show. She also compared the School Principal Sister Sriya Pushpam with Kamaraj due to the respect she had for everybody and her simplicity.
