As a measure to effectively fight against COVID-19, Chennai Corporation has made it mandatory to use a face mask while stepping out of home for permitted work and needs.
A Press Release issued by Greater Chennai Corporation on April 15, 2020, has specified that this direction is under Section 2 of Epidemic Disease Act 1987.
The direction further states that any person disobeying shall be liable for punishment with a penalty of Rs. 100/- per day for the pedestrians. If a person driving a vehicle violates this stipulation, the vehicle will be seized and his driving license will be suspended for six months.
