Swim expedition by students with special needs

A group of 14 students with special needs, aged 9 to 19, recently accomplished an impressive feat by completing a sea swimming expedition from Cuddalore to Chennai, covering 165 kilometres over four days. The expedition, conducted in relay format, began on February 1, 2024, at Silver Beach in Cuddalore and concluded on February 4, 2024, at Marina Beach in Chennai.

Led by the Yadhavi Sports Academy for Special Needs, the students received support from their parents, coaches, and a dedicated team. The expedition aimed to highlight the capabilities of individuals with autism and promote awareness about inclusivity.

The children were warmly welcomed at Marina Beach by notable figures including Shri. J Meghanatha Reddy, IAS – Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu, and Dr. C. Sylendra Babu, Ex-DGP, Tamil Nadu Police, along with organizers from Yadhavi Sports Academy and well-wishers.

Mr. Sathish Sivakumar, Founder, and Head Coach of Yadhavi Sports Academy for Special Needs, expressed pride in the students’ determination and emphasized the importance of breaking stereotypes and embracing diversity.

The successful completion of this expedition marks a significant milestone in promoting autism awareness and advocating for inclusivity. The students’ achievement serves as an inspiration for all, demonstrating the power of determination and teamwork in overcoming challenges.
