YOCee has been conducting photowalks (walking with a camera and capturing the history and the present times) during Madras Week for more than ten years now. Since our movements are restricted in the present situation, we went on two virtual photowalks last year.
This year too we will walk virtually and we invite you to join a photowalk along an interesting area in Chennai.
The details are here:
Virtual Photowalk – Veteran Lines, Pallavaram
Pallavaram (originally Pallavapuram, [பல்லவபுரம்]) derives its name from Pallava dynasty settlement during the 7th century by Pallava king Mahendravarman. Pallavaram is considered to be one of the oldest inhabited places dating back to the Paleolithic Age.
Pallavaram has also an interesting history of Anglo-Indians, who settled in a vast area called Veteran Lines.
Was this neighbourhood created for World War II veterans? Or got its name from the company, European Artillery Veterans that operated from the area? Whatever be the origin of the name, the beautiful houses, their porticos, roofs, arched windows, sprawling gardens, the place reflects facets of British architecture.
Let’s walk around and view some of the unique features of Veteran Lines, virtually. Like in the past, Mr. N. Ramaswamy, who publishes a photo every day at https://chennaidailyphoto.com/ and is an avid photowalker, will lead the walk.
Time: 4 p.m.
Date: Sunday, Aug. 22, 2021
A link to the virtual walk will be mailed on Saturday, August 21, 2021
Do join us; bring along friends who will be interested in history, stories, photos and walk! Share the link with them.
