Attention all high school students passionate about writing and reporting the news!
YOCee’s Student Reporter Programme for the year 2023-24 is accepting applications now. We invite you to become a part of this team of Student Reporters.
Now in its seventeenth consecutive year, YOCee’s Student Reporter Programme encourages and trains students from high school classes who are interested in writing and news reporting. As a student reporter, you will report news and events from your school and neighbourhood, interview inspiring individuals, and get your articles published on YOCee’s website under your name.
The programme is designed for students in classes 6-12. It offers a range of benefits, including the opportunity to improve your language, writing, communication, and public relations skills. Student reporters will receive guidance on reporting, writing, and interviewing skills, and attend periodic get-togethers with other reporters. Additionally, you will gain hands-on reporting experience, and have the chance to showcase your work on YOCee.
The selection process is highly competitive, and only 25 student reporters are selected each year.
Here’s what you need to do to apply for the programme:
Submit a news piece (in 150 words) about anything you observed in your neighbourhood in the recent past. Send it along with five lines on what you would be interested in if selected.
Please also provide your class, school, residential address, name of the parent, and contact phone number. A declaration that your parents have consented to your application. (Apply through the form below)
How does the programme work?
After a briefing session, the student reporters will be ready to take up assignments. They can come up with their own story ideas, get the guidance, conduct interviews and file their report for publishing on YOCee. You will contribute articles / reports from June 2023 to May 2024.
Occasional meetings will be held to hone the skills and receive peer feedback. We may also have guest journalists during the sessions.
Every student reporter is expected to submit a minimum of two reports per month. You will receive a certificate upon completion of the programme, subject to honouring your assignments on time. You may also receive some surprise goodies!
And the best part? This is a complimentary programme from YOCee, so you won’t be charged any fee to participate.
Ready to take your writing and reporting skills to the next level? Then, apply for YOCee’s Student Reporter Programme 2023-24.
