Do the tender teeth of infants and young kids require special care?
Ask the pediatric dentist Dr. Aruna Mohan. She would say yes and would explain to you why.
Tooth fairy – the clinic for li’l teeth is a dental clinic exclusive for kids.
The dentist Dr. Aruna Mohan is an expert in pediatric dentistry with around 16 years of experience. She completed basic dentistry in the year 1991 and her masters in 1996.
As there was no course for pediatric dentistry in the Government college here, she went to the USA for two years and finally reached her goal.
Dr. Aruna says “The reason why I took up pediatric dentistry is because I love little children.”
Something which the doctor says that every child should know is that “Teeth form part of the body. If you get fever you are taken to the doctor and given medicine. But with teeth many parents don’t really bother and then the kids end up with decays from eating chocolate etc.”
“Also there is this fear that their teeth will be pulled out if they are taken to a dentist. This is not only with the children but also with the parents. So they delay taking their child to the dentist. I am trying to change that with this generation of children,” she adds.
The clinic has a kid friendly environment. The waiting room has toys, a trampoline, photos and posters with toothy facts! The ‘Deep sea’ and ‘Jungle’ are the thematic rooms where kids get treated. There is also an innovative brushing station where children are taught to brush the right way.
Dr. Aruna says that the clinic looks at children differently and with respect. “We are more friendlier here and the kids don’t look at me as a doctor. Some of them come in here and ask me to play with them on the trampoline. The comfort level is probably more. Here adults are told what to do and maybe because of that the children feel thrilled.”
It is earlier the better in this clinic as Dr. Aruna treats children as young as one year old. So let the tooth fairy work magic on your teeth too.
