The Tamil Nadu government has launched a new service to make school journeys safer and more comfortable. On August 18,2026, the government rolled out 50 exclusive buses for students of 25 schools across Chennai. These buses are operated by the Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) and are designed to reduce overcrowding and traffic congestion near schools.

Each morning, the buses leave depots between 6:50 a.m. and 8:05 a.m., stopping only at designated points. They drop students inside school campuses, ensuring safety right up to the gate. In the afternoon, return trips run between 1:50 p.m. and 4:10 p.m., making a total of 50 trips every day.
Free bus passes for the academic year 2025–26 were also distributed at the flagging off event. This year, more than 35 lakh students across Tamil Nadu will receive free bus passes, including 4.1 lakh students in Chennai.
These buses mean less rush, safer travel and more time to enjoy the ride with friends.

When YOCee’s student reporters get busy, the team at YOCee’s small office takes up the role of the reporters, does the rounds, writes copies and files reports. The team also posts useful info and ePapers produced in-house.
