The visit to Birla Planetarium last Sunday was an experience par excellence!
Many students gathered at the pi – ie room to listen to Dr. K. Srinivasa Rao, DST-Ramanujan Professor Shastra University,Thanjavur.
He showed the irregular triangles, then explained the concept of pi, i & e and derived a relationship between them. He then explained various concepts in geometry.
Interestingly there is also a pi room in Russia.
But this one in Chennai proves to be better as it is about both pi, i& e.
One can catch up with the applications of pi in geometry and the contributions of Indian Mathematicians regarding pi & e. The room will be made larger and will be inaugurated this year, the authorities said.
After the session, students watched the breathtaking 3D show of Science experiments involving spooky stuff like snakes and rats. Some of them also watched the enthralling show ‘Cosmic Journey’ that talks about stars, constellations, supernova, black holes almost covering the basics of Astronomy. Even new information was added.
However, the science exhibition did not have thrilling experiments like previous years. Still some of them were worth watching.
The Sunday was indeed special for those who visited the Birla Planetarium as they took a break from their exam preparations to watch the programmes.
