The Reclaim Our Beaches (ROB) movement is spearheaded by 350me, a youth initiative, and the Save Chennai Beaches campaign. It’s a campaign, opposing the elevated Expressway on the beach.
The rock concert was conducted by Junkyard Groove in Spaces on 20th Dec ‘09 (Sunday). This concert also featured Benny Dayal, Kavitha; Ranjani & Priyanka.This was a fund raising rock show for a right clean -up campaign which begins in December and will converge in a massive clean-up of the beaches on January 30, Jan 31 2010.
Reclaim our beaches is a campaign by Chennaiites to reclaim our public spots starting with beaches. It is a place where people get to spend some time with their family and friends. Reclaim our beaches is an initiative to save beaches from being run over by PLASTIC – plastic spoons plastic plates, plastic cups etc. Why don’t people take interest in this activity?
Through the aimless deployment of poor children as a labour to clean up after somebody else has spoiled beaches with plastic and trash, we are conveying that it is ok to mindlessly use and throw trash.
The Right Clean – Up: Reclaim Our Beaches proposes to engage Chennai residents ,beach users and visitors in an effort to clean up the beaches & to keep it dirt free –not by periodic clean ups by unpaid child labour; nor by engaging in periodic clean ups by adult labour but by potty training our society.
