Last Sunday on April 12, 2015, a group of passionate artists assembled at the ICF Rail Museum in North Chennai. The common thread that bonded the group together was the love for art. Many of them in the group were working professionals and students. The agenda for the weekend was to paint the walls of the rail museum.
The group Chennai Weekend Artists (CWC) formed by Mr. Muralidharan Alagar and Mr. Ganapathy Subramaniam began to function from September 2012. It is an informal group of like-minded artists, who meet every weekend at any location of interest, in and around Chennai to draw, appreciate each other’s work and share knowledge.
The group has nearly 100 active members and 1000 members in its Facebook group. Another group ‘Kids & Wings’ encourages young talents and features the art work of children online.
On Sunday, with the permission of Mr. Sivagnanamoorthy, curator of the rail museum, the members of the group painted on the walls of the museum. They drew and painted caricatures of animals, cartoons, popular characters, green landscape and trains. The group commenced painting at 9 a.m. and completed their task by 2 p.m. Most of the members had come with their family.
Besides painting on walls, the members of this group had drawn sketches of animals, birds, humans, heritage and various interesting things.
The group continues to work and paint in the coming weekend too. For more information, contact Muralidharan at muralidharan.alagar@gmail.com
