Bala Vidya mandir – the best school team at the landmark quiz

If you are on the lookout for the latest bestseller or RPG, where would you go? – Landmark, of course! Landmark, the bookstore, has lived up to its name. It is now one of the most popular ‘landmarks’ in Chennai.
Landmark was set up in 1987 in Chennai. In its stores one can find books, music, gifts, toys and stationery. Every year it organizes an open quiz on Independence Day. Teams from all across the country participate in this quiz. It is the largest open quiz programme to be held in the country. It is held in Chennai, Bangalore and Pune.

This year, too, the quiz was held on the 15th of August at the Music Academy. The quiz master was Dr. Navin  Jayakumar. One of the interesting features of this quiz is that all the teams participating have to come up with unique team names. The best team name is awarded with Landmark gift vouchers. This year some of the names were ‘Singh may be King but Iyer is higher’ and `Joker’s enemy – The Dark Knight, Mosquito’s enemy – Good Night’

This year the national finals were held for the first time. This comprised of the top two teams from Bangalore, Chennai and Pune. The winners were the ‘Quizzing Goramis’ from Bangalore. Second place went to ‘QED’ from Chennai. The award for the Best School Team went to the team with the name ‘The only difference between martyrdom and suicide is press coverage’, of Bala Vidya Mandir. This team comprised of Shreyas V.P., Anish Shenai and S. Abhinav.

A day after the event, the winning school team. Shreyas, Anish and Abhinav said that they have a good understanding amongst themselves. They participate as a team in many quizzes and have a knack of winning!
Anish, who is in his final year at the school said,  “I feel a sense of achievement. Last year we were runners–up but this year we made it.”  Abhinav added,  “ If one tries hard enough and not lose hope one would succeed someday.”

What got Abhinav interested in quizzing?  He said “I took it up for fun and after sometime I started liking it.”  Shreyas added “It started out as a hobby and has now grown to a passion.”  Will this group continue to participate in quizzes as a team? Shreyas said “We all love quizzing, our team works and so wherever we are in the future, I hope we can get together and compete.”

Congrats to the team and wishes for winning more quizzes in the future.
