On June, 27, 2015, Sacred Heart Matriculation Higher Secondary School, Church Park celebrated their 106th annual sports meet in the school’s sports ground.
Students from Std I to XII participated in the events and the parents came in large numbers to cheer and support the children. The chief guest on the occasion was Mr. Shambhu Kallolikar IAS, Principal Secretary / Member Secretary, Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu. The Principal of the school, Sr. Prabha, welcomed the gathering and said that the children were ready to exhibit their skills after weeks of rigorous and continuous preparation under the guidance of the staff.
At 8.30am, the sports meet started with the school band leading the guests to the dais followed by the march past and lighting of the torch. The inaugural dance and the drill were all based on the International theme of the year ‘SOILS’.
The school created history by being the first all-girls school to form a freestyle football squad. The fifth graders and ninth graders displayed their freestyle football skills to mark this record. Karate demonstration and the School Band display were some of the special events.
The five houses of the school named Lily, Lotus, Rose, Shamrock and Violet competed with each other with the true spirit of sportsmanship. Track events and innovative class games were conducted to ensure that every child participated in the sports meet. The violet house emerged as the sports champions of the year.
Prizes were distributed for off-field games held for the teachers and the inevitable support staff of the school. On the spot games were organised for the Alumni students and the parents, in which many of them participated enthusiastically. The school head girl, Ms. Yagna Madhavan delivered the vote of thanks. The students sang the School Song and the National Anthem to conclude the sports meet.
