The theatre buddies Evam spent their Easter weekend with kids and helped them create their own play room.
Through a workshop held on the April 10 and 11, 2009 at the Cancer Institute, Adyar, they got the kids together to paint their room pink and green and orange and a lot of colours.
Evam’s Project HAPPY helped the Institute to create and maintain a Play room for children at their newly built Pediatric Oncology ward.
Three artists from Bangalore and Chennai, Anisha, Malavika and Preethi volunteered to conduct the workshop for the children who are admitted to the Cancer Institute for treatment.
They helped the children to paint one wall of the playroom with hand prints and stenciled designs. Since many children can not be exposed to the paint due to their health conditions, the volunteers from Evam helped them to paint their choice of designs on the wall. Visha, a 12 year old girl undergoing treatment at the Institute, says that she likes to paint all kinds of things and her favourite colour is pink. She enjoyed painting on the wall.
Project HAPPY was started by Evam less than a month ago. Evam raises funds for Project HAPPY’s initiatives through its theatre shows and with the help of volunteers from Evam, takes up causes which it feels need attention, says Aparna Narayan of Evam. Though fund-raising for Project HAPPY began a month ago, this is the first cause they have taken up.
As a part of earlier efforts of Evam, Vidya Sagar and Cattitude in Chennai were given around 50 tickets to Evam’s theatre shows, free of cost, for them to sell and raise funds which they needed. Since they have taken up the cause of children in Chennai, Project Happy intends to look into Animal Welfare and Senior Citizens in Bangalore and Hyderabad.
Evam’s theatre productions Maya Bazaar and Pathala Bhairavi trio be staged on April 25 and 26 are being sponsored by the Nippon Company and when they knew that Evam is doing this Playroom project they happily volunteered to give away the paints.
The newly built Mahesh Memorial Paediatric Oncology ward was inaugurated on April 14, 2009.
