The efforts and consistent practice by three dozen students of Lady Sivaswamy Ayyar Girls Higher Secondary School, Mylapore won them first prize in the Republic Day Parade in Chennai.
A group of 36 students from class 11 and 12 were trained in Kolattam, a dance form performed mainly in villages with a pair of colourful wooden sticks. Music teacher of the school, S. Suganya trained these children nearly for a month.
The second and third prizes were won by Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Ashok Nagar and St. Francis Xavier Anglo Indian School, Broadway. Governor K. Rosaiah distributed the awards and shields to the winners.
