Epilepsy….not heard of it?
It is a brain disorder in which clusters of nerve cells or neurons in the brain sometimes signal abnormally. ‘Practical Living with Epilepsy’ was the theme of a program at VHS (Voluntary Health Services) Hospital, Taramani in connection with National Epilepsy Day (20th November). It was jointly conducted by VHS Hospital and Rotary Club of Chennai Mid-City.
The whole program was mainly organized by Dr. Ennapadam S.Krishanmoorthy, MBBS, MD, DCN (Lond.), FRCP (Lond, Edin, Glas), MAMS (India), Senior Consultant in Clinical Neurology & Neuropsychiatry, Hon. Secretary & Director of Neurological Sciences, Geriatric Services & Rehabilitation.
The range of competitions included tableaux, skit (Tamil and English), jingles (Tamil and English), essay writing, collage and painting. The topics for all theses competitions centered on epilepsy and awareness about it.
The topics for the painting and collage were Movies and Epilepsy, Learning Disability and Epilepsy, and Awareness and Epilepsy. The participants featured many epileptic people, precautions to follow, and first aid to be done during an epileptic attack in their drawings.
All the competitions got over by 5 pm and were followed by the Valedictory Function. The special guests for the function included actors Naren, Priya Raman, Ranjith, Suganya, Prithviraj, Premkumar, etc. All the special guests lighted the kuththuvillakku and each one of the spoke about their view of these competitions and awareness being created about epilepsy.
Then children who are part of The Deepa Krishna Growing Brains Project recited slokams, danced, and sung. This was followed by the much awaited prize distribution.
