Named after Nobel Laureate Jack Kilby, a legend from Texas Instruments and the inventor of Integrated Circuit, Texas Instruments Jack Kilby Science & Technology Quiz is conducted annually for the past six years.
Students of classes 8, 9 and 10 are eligible to participate in the quiz. Each school could send a maximum of six teams with two members in each team. The regional finals were held in Chennai on Oct. 31at the Chinmaya Heritage Centre, Chetpet.
About 280 teams from various schools in the city participated in this unique quiz where every question was on science and technology and not necessarily form text books.
After a written prelims, six top teams fought the battele out on the stage. Two teams each from PSBB Nungambakkam and Bala Vidya Mandir, and one team each from Hindu Senior Secondary School and P.S. Senior Secondary School were the finalists.
S. Varun and V. Harish Krishna of PSBB Nungambakkam emerged as the regional winners of the quiz, winning robotics kits for themselves and microscope for their school.
The two teams from Bala Vidya Mandir won the second and third prize and won telescopes and ipods respectively.
The regional winners will participate in the national final to be held in Bangalore on Nov. 16.
