The Narasimhapuram Residents’ Association presided by the wellknown Carnatic singer and a Padma Bhushan awardee P.S. Narayanaswami, celebrated Republic day in the colony in Mylapore.
The chief guests for the occasion were S.Ve.Shekher, Mylapore MLA and Mr.Raghunathan. After the flag hoisting, S.Ve.Shekher delivered an interesting and lively speech.
Then the kids in the colony got an opportunity to show off their talents. Even small kids participated, sung, danced, played the keyboard, etc. After breakfast, fancy dress and colouring competitions were held for children below 8 years. The audience were divided into four groups and lively games such as dumsharads were held.
An extremely difficult ‘Match the following’ on history topics was also held. In the “What Mother India says…” game, the children were busy running here and there getting things that Mother India asked for, such as spectacles, leaves of different shapes, etc. At the end of the game one member of each team had to stand on 4 full bricks and salute to our National flag. Points were calculated for each event and the Gandhi Team emerged as the overall winner, followed by the Prasad Team.
A drawing competition was also held for kids above 8 years, which was followed by musical chairs and then lunch. Finally the prize distribution ceremony was held and gifts were given to all children below 20 years. Everyone walked back to their homes with a smile on their face and a growing love for India in their hearts. A cloud of patriotism had enveloped the colony!
