Students happy with Zero at DAV Girls Sr. Sec. School

Zero is usually a number which knots the tummies of all students. But the students of D.A.V have a different story about this number.

The Zero Hour is a system which is brought into practice in the D.A.V Girls Senior Secondary School, Gopalpuram for the present academic year 2011-2012. This is a free period between the first and the second period for 50 minutes. It is from 8.40 a.m. to 9.30 a.m.

During this zero hour no teacher takes class. The main aim of this zero hour is for the students to complete their incomplete homework. It creates a buffer time for all the students to finish their work in class.

“I love the idea of this zero hour. I usually get doubts in the Maths homework and will not be able to finish it. But after the zero hour has come I go and get my doubts cleared from Maths mam”, said a ninth-grader of the school.

The class teacher comes to class during the zero hour and ensures that the noise level is kept low in the class. All the weekly unit tests and project works for the formative assessments are carried out during this period.

Moreover, the practice sessions for the annual day, sports day, Independence Day etc. too is carried out during this 50-minute period. It is even more beneficial as the students can attend their practice sessions without missing the school lessons and their school busses in the evening.

“The introduction of the zero hour is very useful. It is because I am able to go for the annual day practice sessions without missing my classes. I also have time to come back and clear my doubts in my incomplete homeworks”, said Harini, a ninth- grader of the school.

On the whole, the Zero Hour system has benefited the students of the school to a great deal. This creative idea has had a very positive impinge on all the students of this school and has given rise to huge smiles on their faces.

  1. Good article. Nice initiative from DAV. too. Kudos to Yocee for encouraging students to be so expressive. Article was on par with those from a professional reporter.
