The shouts of thrill and excitement that came from the Vidya Mandir school could be heard in the streets around the school on Jan. 25, a sunny saturday. One could also frequently hear loud announcements and Tamil and Hindi film songs coming from the school. All this noise and commotion came from the centre of learning because of the event bring organized there – the Fun Fest.
A sort of carnival, the Fun Fest is the most popular event in the school, beating even the field trips. This wonderful event is organised annually in the third term of the academic year and helps collect funds for the school. The event goes on for two days, the first day for the kids in the High School and the second day for the children of the Primary.
The ground of Vidya Mandir was lined with several colourful stalls, each being for a different kind of game. There were several stalls such as Rifle Shooting, Memory Game, BrainVita, Feed the tiger, Wheel of fortune, tire the ball etc. And each game required a different kind of skills. Well, for the Wheel of Fortune, all you need is pure luck!
The stalls were run by the teachers and PTA volunteers and noble students who din´t mind sacrificing their precious play time to help out with the stalls.
Each student of Vidya Mandir was given a fun fest card before hand, consisting of 25 squares. For each game played, two squares were crossed out from the card. Outsiders could also buy the card for Rs. 50. For every game won, the person was given a prize coupon. Prizes were being given next to the stage. The prizes varied from crazy balls and lunch boxes to notebooks and pens.
But that wasn´t all. Right next to the basket ball, there were several stalls selling snacks and refreshments. Many well known companies like Akshaya Food Factory, Kwality Walls, Sree Krishna Sweets set up their stalls in Vidya Mandir.
In addition to all this, there was also a small place selling balloons and a stall from Odyssey Book Store with big discount offers. There was also a Lucky Draw and the fortunate winners were given gift vouchers from fancy shops and restaurants all over the city.
The fantastic event concluded at 6.30 pm with a bang, with every student shouting out ´three cheers for VM.´ The enthusiastic students who had a whale of a time slowly dispersed. Everyone had tons of fun. The students present there on that day was most unhappy to be leaving the school!
