If you think that students of P.S. Senior Sec. School are more into academics, the school’s sports enthusiasts prove otherwise!
The Football team of P.S.Senior Secondary is making news in the inter-school tournaments for the past 4 years. The team has been consecutively getting qualified for the CBSE Nationals for 4 years, emerging as winners for 2 years in a row, 2012-13 and 2013-14, at the South Zone level.
The team has also won many of the annual tournaments conducted throughout Chennai, getting a hat-trick at those conducted by KVIIT and Lady Andal. Fourteen of the players who are / were a part of the team have represented the Chennai district in State level matches under various age categories.
CH. Anjani Rashmitha, 2013 pass out represented India, as a member of the US sponsored India-Pakistan Girls Soccer Sports Visitors Program held at Washington D.C.
The current academic year is a successful one for the team. Apart from winning South Zone CBSE Clusters, they also secured the third place at CBSE Nationals. This is the first time in the last five years that a South Indian team was placed among top three.
Also, two of this year’s players, Samrita of class 11 and Adhithi of class 9 were part of the Tamil Nadu U-17 team that won the third place. Sneha of class 8 is currently attending the Indian Camp at U-14 level and is expected to get into the Indian team.
The idea of grooming a girls Football team, coaching them, identifying talent, relentlessly looking for opportunities for the players and bringing to light yet another facet of the School through continuous mentoring should be attributed to the coach of the team, Mr. K.Kalidasan.
