On January 23, Friday, Spel Linc, an annual event that tests the English vocabulary skills of school children, was conducted at PSBB, Nungambakkam. This event is in its ninth year and is being held in Chennai for the first time, for the students of class 9.
The spelling contest will be held in many schools in Chennai and three students would be selected, to represent their school at the inter-school competition which will be held at a later date.
The contest is designed such that, students selected at the classroom level would first go for Round 1, where 20 words are called out and students should write their correct spellings. 10 students would be selected for Round 2; after which three students would be selected to represent their school at the inter-school competition.
At PSBB Nungambakkam, the competition was truly a difficult one as there were three separate rounds after the round 2 for four students who’s scores were neck – to – neck. These three rounds were the tie-breaker rounds and at the end of which M. Suudharshana, S..S..Anjanaa Devi and Padmapriya Govindarajan were declared the winners. Saniya Surana was the fourth contestant who sadly lost the exciting race by a letter!
The first three winners were presented with a ‘Word Cracker’ badge, a certificate and a set of Linc pens each. The other seven students were awarded consolation prizes which consisted of certificates and a couple of Linc pens.
