Students of Sir Sivaswamy Kalalaya get ready for their A-Day

“Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”. Wondering what it means? It is the Sanskrit word for Universal Brotherhood’, the theme for this year’s Annual Day of Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya, Mylapore.

Practice sessions for the Annual Day, which is to be held on July 22, 2011 at the Music Academy, have been going on in full swing for the past few weeks. While the art department is busy with organising the props and stage decorations, the music teachers are shaping up the choir and the dance teachers are preparing students for the dance events.

Each of the language departments – Tamil, Sanskrit, Hindi and English- is doing a programme. Students are seen busily running around to their respective practice venues.

If you enter the school campus between 12.40 and 4.00 p.m., you would hear the choir at one corner; hear strains of jathis at another corner, and see various students practicing their dialogues.

Radhika G of Class 11, who is directing the Tamil play, says, “Annual Day promotes the sense of unity among various students and instills a sense of leadership.”

Meenakshi. V and S. Ram Vignesh of Class 8, who are narrating for the English play, feel that the practice session was fun and that they also learnt some information about Aurobindo Ghosh, as their play is about him.

Before the Annual Day, a stage rehearsal will be held at the Music Academy a day before, when each program will be viewed by the Principal and Vice- Principal, and the participants too will get to know the amount of space available on the stage.

310 students and 50 volunteers along with the teachers, staff and the entire faculty have been working hard, and are putting in their best to make this Annual Day a grand success.
