To make reading a habit …

On Nov. 20, 2011, longlongago.in, an online lending library for Children’s books conducted a reading work shop for kids.

A reading work shop – ‘I love to read’ – for kids aged 5 years and above was conducted in the Community Hall in Rani Meyyammai Towes, R.A Puram.
S.Supraja of ‘The Winners’, who specialises in conducting enrichment programs, workshops and camps for children, handled this workshop.

The workshop was divided into 4 parts – 10 to 11.30a.m., 12 to 1.30 p.m. 2.30 to 4.00 p.m. and 4.30 to 6.00 p.m. Book reading, Action poetry, role playing, treasure hunt game, knowing directions, morals, values through fun and frolic- this workshop was an amalgam of fun and learning. The vibrancy of the workshop made the kids want to read more and more, and many subscription forms for books were sold out!

From Bhiku Bhai to Pirate Spike, kids enjoyed the reading workshop.
One of the best parts of the workshop was, they were made to think they were helping a boy called “Dolby” read books, and under this light- they themselves came to know so much!

The online library longlongago.in was founded by Hariraj Narsimhamurthi, who comes
from the IT field and after traveling places like Germany, America, he found that the reading habit of children is poor in India, as some books don’t reach out to them.
He said people don’t know that Noddy is not only a cartoon character, but a book written by Enid Blyton! This library is his step towards improving children’s reading habits. And
it is already gaining huge response in their current centres – Bengaluru, Chennai and Coimbatore, he said.

The workshop was also enjoyed by the parents and they felt that more such workshops are needed, to enhance the reading abilities of today’s children.
