Did you know that July 1 is celebrated As World Anti-Narcotics Day? As part of this celebration, students of Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya went on a walk around the four maada veedhis of Mylapore on the morning of July 5, 2011.
Students from class 9 and 10 along with their teachers participated in the walk. Earlier each class had been asked to make colourful banners and charts carrying attractive slogans on preventing the use of drugs, alcohol, etc.
The students held these banners during the walk. The charts carried slogans such as ‘Be Cool, Don’t be a Smoking Fool’, ‘Don’t huff, don’t puff, keep away from that stuff’, etc. Some charts even had 3-D models of cigarettes stuck on them.
The school photographer took photos and then the students commenced on the walk. They also raised slogans such as ‘Stop Smoking!’, ‘Avoid Alcohol!’ etc while walking.
They were escorted by a staff from the Police Department who helped in managing free flow of traffic as the students walked.
