Crafts for a noble cause

Do you like doing craft items? My friend Meera and I do.
Our school Sir Sivaswami Kalalaya organized a Craft Bazaar from Nov. 20 to 22 at our school premises. Students from all classes submitted their art works and they were displayed to the students and the parents.

Each class did a specific craft item that they had learnt in their art class. The students of class 6 used ice cream sticks to make the craft items and they also made kaleidoscopes. The students of   class 7 made flowers from stocking material, sand paintings and photo frames. The students of other classes made jewellery, glass paintings, soap carvings, embroidery, etc.

There were also other things like wall hangings, small bracelets and earrings, etc. On Nov.20 and 21, the school students visited the bazaar and Saturday it was the parents’ turn.

My friend Meera and I came up with an idea to put up a stall in our school during a Parent-Teacher Meet and we presented it before our Vice-Principal and Principal. They were very happy and quickly agreed to it. Our Vice-Principal also suggested us to do it during the Craft Bazaar as more parents will be coming.

We both made a lot of crafts like photo frames, pen stands, earring holders, wall hangings, greeting cards (using dry leaves, handmade paper, shells, etc.), shell earrings, feather earrings, book marks and many more.

On Saturday the Vice-Principal announced about our stall and asked the parents to come and buy something as the money was going for a good cause. She also arranged for the office people to put up some tables for us in the foyer of our school for us to put up our stall.

We sold all these things in our stall on Saturday and the money from this stall will be going to WWF India which means World Wide Fund for Nature India. Everyone was enthusiastic to buy the things and in a short time almost all the things were sold. We also got some orders from parents for earring holders, etc. The total amount of money we got was around Rs.2000.

Later we contacted WWF and they were very pleased. In the coming week the money will be handed over to them.
