Media Club at PSBB

The PSBB Group of Schools launched the ‘MEDIA CLUB’ on 14th November 2008 at Sri YGP Auditorium, T. Nagar.

Mr. Sanjay Pinto, Bureau Chief, NDTV, Tamilnadu declared the club open and he took extreme pleasure in the fact that students were beginning to realize the importance of media.

Mr. Pinto said, “I, as a boy of 5, was used to report what happened around me every day to my dad and this provided a great basis for the path I would follow in my future.” He said that he was very unhappy at the fact that his college magazine had only 8 pages reserved for the 2000 students who studied in the institution and he took this straight to the administration and proposed having a magazine, exclusively for the students and hence the Loyola Herald was born. “Noticing the malpractice at a shop close to my house I started writing letters to the editor of leading newspapers and thus began my tryst with destiny,” he added. He concluded his speech saying “Try and make a difference – Perhaps go beyond your media club”.
He highlighted the importance of education beyond the classroom and encouraged all students to step into the venture bravely.

The major objectives of this club are:
To provide opportunity to students on various aspects of media literacy & to assist in the basic understanding of media culture.
To utilize media as an important tool in cultivating and promoting creativity to develop & nurture technical skills.
To provide a thorough exposure to students on various career options available in the fields of multimedia, by detailing the career path & linking the academic courses available to tread this career path.

Dr. (Mrs.) YGP, Dean and Director, P.S.B.B. group of schools, a journalist herself gave a sneak peek into the world of journalism, the power of media and gave her hearty wishes and blessings to those who were embarking upon this journey.
Students then performed skits emphasizing on the importance and uses of the media. Prizes were then distributed to the students who had excelled in the various contests and events conducted in the run to the inauguration of the Media Club.
Teachers, guests, various delegates from the media world, alumni and students bore witness to this event and a wonderful sight it was to see the alumni of the school support and guide their juniors as they took their first steps into the venture. An epitome of dedication and teamwork, the Media Club will be a sight to behold.
