The Wait for the Bait 2014

In an effort to provide a platform for the students of Chennai city schools, the Debate Club of Bhavans Rajaji Vidhyashram, Chennai, organised an orientation programme for its fifth edition of the ‘BAIT’- an annual debate competition. It was an orientation cum briefing programme for the BAIT ‘2014 and the Change Makers’ Conference (CMC).

The programme commenced with prayer song. This was followed by the welcome address by Shri. Ajeeth Prasath Jain, Senior Principal,Bhavans Rajaji Vidhyashram and ceremonial lighting of the kuthuvizhku.The programme witnessed participation by students and teachers from around 25 city schools.

The students were given their registration kits along with respective topics. Dhruv Shah, The Head of the Debate Club, spoke about the success story of BAIT in its previous years. A short video on the vision and mission of BAIT was then screened. Srivatsan, the Head of the Resource and Development Club then took over and briefed the participants both the forthcoming events – the BAIT and the CMC.

Students were given an insight into the genesis of the idea of Change Makers Conference and how it would create a better society for each one to live in. The winner of the Change Makers’s Conference 2013, Ms. P.S. Nandini, shared her personal experiences on her award winning Project KENI which accomplished in establishing libraries for the underprivileged students in the slums.

This was followed by an interactive questionnaire session where students clarified the various queries in their minds. Snacks and refreshments were provided to all the participants. The programme ended at 01.00 pm and the students dispersed hoping to meet on 18th July, the day of the first round of the debate.
