Centenary year at the Malankara church

The Malankara Orthodox Syrian Christians of The Madras Diocesan celebrated the centenary year on July 1, 2012. This day marks 100 years since the independence of the Malankara church from the hands of the Antiochian Christians.Thus, the Malankara church established itself in India in 1912.

The event was celebrated with joy happiness and pride.The event began with a procession.The church priests, Sunday school children, young couples, men, women and alter boys dressed in traditional form participated in the procession holding plackards balloons and candles.

After the procession everybody gathered inside the hall. The gathering was presided over by the Supreme Head of the church His Holiness Moran Mar Baselios Marthoma Paulose II (Catholicose of the East and Malankara Metropolitan),along with him was Dr.Yuhanon Mar Diascoros (Chennai Diocesan Metropolitan).

His Holiness lighted the lamp and flagged off the event. His Highness said, “Celebrate each one’s life with good qualities. Serve the people reach out to the poor and needy.”  Retd. Chief Justice and the present Human rights head Mr. Benjamin Koshy delivered the day’s message followed by a documentary. Rev Fr. Gigi Mathew’s documentary was quite informative documentary.

The screening of the documentary was followed by cultural events, drama and traditional dances.The event came to end after singing of the church song. The choir comprised of about 100 members singing together melodiously. The programme ended  with a vote of thanks by Rev Fr. Joseph Thaliaparambil  Cor Episcopa .  Rev. Fr.George Vargheese Cor Episcopa  proudly said,”This day is considered as a red letter day in the history of the Malankara church”.
